Summer Striper Fishing - Tennessee River

           Summer striper fishing takes place on the Tennessee River and Clinch River on the west side of Knoxville. These fish will average 10 to 25 lbs with occaisional 30 lbers caught. Fishing is usually very consistent and numbers of fish ( 20 to sometimes 50+ per day) can be expected. Trips average 6 to 8 hours. Great trips for anybody and a short drive to the Smokey Mountain ( Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge).

NOTE :  Most fish are released. This can be done successfully in the heat of summer due to the cooler and highly oxygenated water below dams. Take pictures quickly or release fish without removing from water. Most lakes are too hot for successful release of summer fish. The number of fish we caught is stated to reflect the consistency of my summer trips. You may have fished with another guide in the same area and caught more , less or bigger. I RARELY PITCH HEAVY WEIGHT INTO THE "BOILS" AT THE DAM SO IF THIS IS HOW YOU LIKE TO FISH YOU'LL NEED TO FISH WITH SOMEONE ELSE.  In addition to a lot of 20 to 30 lb fish more than half of our summer catch runs 12 to 18 lbs.

( photo above ) Cory, long time friend and client Paul Freer and Tom . Paul was top dog this day with back to back 20 lb + fish but Cory was quick to remind him of the 41 lb striper he caught with me on a past trip.

( photos above ) Todd and his dad traveled from Georgia and celebrated his dad's 70 th birthday with a striper fishing trip. Bite was slow on my last day of summer guiding but they still landed 14 stripers with 6 weighing between 18 and 22 lbs.

TypicalKeKen & Robert (above photos) fished with me and boated 115 stripers up to 25 lbs.

       ((above)  Three very accomplished fisherman from Charlotte, NC and Rock hill SC boated 41 stripers up to 25 lbs.
