My 2010 189 " 8 x 5 Montana Mule deer
This is proof that you can still have a chance at a monster mule deer on public land. NOTE: GUIDES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HUNT ON THE PRIVATE LAND LEASED FOR CLIENTS . I found this buck bedded down in thick timber on a Stateland (public) section in Montana on a unseasonably warm November day. Watched him through my spotting scope for nearly two hours hoping he would stand up for a good broadside shot. I finally crawled to a reasonable distance with the wind in my favor . The buck still bedded , I made a quick clean kill at 234 yards with my 270, the 140 grain trophy bonded bear claw cutting his heart in half. The age was estimated to be 7 1/2 years old . Eight scoreable points on the left side and Five on the right (not counting the brow tines) gave him a gross score of 189 Boone & Crockett scoring system. His main beams had the appearance of "crocodile teeth" nearly an inch long above both brows making them extremely knarly. I thank the Great Spirit for a great hunt and humane kill on the buck of a lifetime. ( note: In the photo at left I propped his head up on my spotting scope tripod for the photo. I was hunting alone. He was actually bedded deep in the shaded timber in the background . I quartered and packed him out 2 1/2 miles and the photo at right was taken back at camp after dark. )

I guided this hunter from Utah to a 340 class elk with a bow. This was a 7 day hunt and we were able to fill his mule deer tag with a 175" buck ( a BIG 3x3 with kickers and a drop tine )in addition to a nice antelope buck.

The whitetail in this photo grossed 183 B&C non-typical . The hunter was Jackie Caudle ( bow hunters may recognize Jackie as a 3 time world champion 3 D archer ) with yours truly as the guide. It made the cover of Eastman's "Bow hunting" magazine.
